Next week parental consultations will be taking place to update parents of progress and celebrate the achievements and talents that your child(ren) has accomplished this year.  The consultations will also allow the opportunity to discuss attitudes to learning, wellbeing and your observations.

In addition to this, we are also planning to host parental engagement sessions during the spring and summer term whereby parents can come in, view their children’s work and chat to staff during the afternoon.  The first of these events will be held on Friday 25th March at 2:45pm – more details to follow in due course

  • PTFA Sponsored Book Read

    Fri 04 Mar 2022

The PTFA are asking children to take part in a sponsored read over Easter to celebrate World Book Day.  This is how it works:-

    • The children get sponsored by friends and family for each minute they spend reading over 2 weeks.
    • They/you keep a tally of how many minutes they spend reading.
    • Collect the sponsorship money and give it to a member of the PTFA.  It may also be handed into the school office for onward transmission to the PTFA.
    • Usbourne Books give the PTFA additional spend (depending on the amount raised) to buy books for the school

Get in touch with the school office or a member of the PTFA to get a sponsor form and reading tally form!

    Fri 11 Feb 2022

On Friday 4th March we will be celebrating World Book Day. We look forward to welcoming the children to school dressed as their favourite story character.  Throughout the week we have designed our curriculum to embrace a ‘Take One Book’ project.  Every class will be exploring ‘The Egg’ by M.P. Robertson and we will share our learning journey during our virtual World Book Day assembly.  We are also going to write a whole school story with the help of our dragon friend Dai.

    Fri 11 Feb 2022

This year we will be celebrating St David’s Day through a series of competitions undertaken in school and as part of home learning.  We will be encouraging all children to dress up in Welsh costume on Tuesday 1st March which could take the form of a Welsh dress, a miner, a sheep, a daffodil or a rugby player.

  • Parent Consultations

    Fri 04 Feb 2022

Unfortunately, due to the restrictions in place, we will be unable to hold parent consultations on site this term. As a cluster of Monmouth Schools, we have taken the decision to facilitate virtual Parental Consultations to update you of the progress your child has made so far this term. The consultations will allow the opportunity to discuss attitudes to learning, wellbeing and how learners are progressing and will take place during the week commencing Monday 7th March 2022.  If you have any concerns regarding your child, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Your child’s class teacher is available via their HWB email address for non-urgent queries. (Staff endeavour to reply within 48 hours). For urgent queries please contact the school office or email Raglanprimary@monmouthshire.gov.uk.

  • New Year Challenge

    Fri 04 Feb 2022

Pupil voice is certainly having an impact on whole school improvement with learners sharing ideas on how we can become healthy, confident individuals.  Learners have therefore challenged all pupils and staff to run/walk the length of Wales, walking or running a kilometre a day.  Learners are proactively recording their progress to ensure they hit their 260 kilometre target!  Please encourage and feel free to join in at home embracing our New Year challenge.

  • Winter of Wellbeing

    Fri 04 Feb 2022

Welsh Government are funding a cross-Wales project called ‘Winter of Wellbeing’ to help children and young people recover from the pandemic and head into spring feeling better, feel more connected to others and ready for a new start.  As part of this project public libraries across Wales are getting behind that ambition by promoting the proven difference reading can make to young people’s lives and wellbeing.  Through this, storytellers and authors are providing school children with virtual and/or face-to-face sessions igniting a love of literature.  We have grabbed this opportunity with both hands and Year 5 had a meeting with Mike Church, Year 4 met with the author and illustrator duo Helen and Thomas Docherty and next week Year 2 and 3 will be embracing drama sessions with Louby Lou Storytelling.  Keep updated through our Twitter page of more exciting events.

  • Eco Schools Green Flag Award

    Fri 04 Feb 2022

Our application for the Eco-Schools Green Flag: 5th Platinum Renewal Award has been successful. We are extremely proud of the children, staff and parents for all their hard work when contributing to the evidence portfolio.  Kind appreciation must go to Raglan CiW Primary School PTFA for their continued support with whole school initiatives and their proactive ideas to ensure we can support the community in a sustainable way.  We are overwhelmed that we have achieved this tremendous accolade.  Llongyfarchiadau!
