Young Climate Warriors

We have started the academic year 2022 - 23 with some positive news! Due to the hard work and commitment of the Eco Warriors (from last year and this year), we have been awarded the Fairtrade Schools FairActive Award. This award is the second phase of the Fairtrade Schools programme. The children had to hold an assembly for the rest of the school and participate in two Fairtrade events or talks.

For one of these, we were lucky enough to enjoy a talk from Martha from the charity LoveZimbabwe. Martha developed our understanding of Fairtrade and shared real life experiences about how Fairtrade supports people in Zimbabwe.

Our second event, is one that we plan to maintain throughout the year. We met with the Eco-Committee from Penygarn Primary, where we shared things we are proud of linked to Eco at Raglan, our aims and ideas for this year and even had a competitive Eco quiz!

We are over the moon to have been informed that our school have successfully achieved our 5th Platinum Green Flag, from Eco Schools Wales!

This is a huge achievement and something that the whole school community has worked towards over the last 12 months. We are extremely proud of the children in completing many projects and initiatives; linked to being Eco friendly and we would like to say a huge thank you to both parents and the PTFA in supporting us with these.

We have already begun steps to help us work towards Platinum Level 6!

Diolch!

The Eco Warriors

Eco Warriors 2021

Eco has faced some challenging times over the last 18 months, with children across plazas unable to meet face to face and school being closed, due to the Pandemic. Despite this, the children at Raglan VC Primary School have continued to use their love for the environment to drive challenges and ideas across the school.

During the year 2020 - 2021 the children decided to complete the Blue Peter Eco Challenge. This meant the whole school had to make and complete pledges linked to various aspects of Eco and helping the environment. Once they had completed a minimum of 2 weeks towards their pledges, evidence was compiled and sent off to Blue Peter. Every child in the school who had applied was successful and received a much sort after, Green Blue Peter Badge. What a fantastic achievement!

We aim to keep the momentum going into the new academic year, with Year 4 leading as the Eco Warriors class. We will update regularly with our aims and targets for the year ahead.

Platinum Flag Renewal Success

Congratulations to all the children and particularly the Eco-Committee last year and this year, your hard work paid off and we have been successful in the renewal of our Platinum Flag. You make us very proud. Thank you.

Eco Committee 2018-2019

This year, with our new look school meeting system, we look forward to more involvement from the wider school community. We are always keen for support and suggestions for what the Eco Committee can do for the school and for the village. If you have any suggestions, talk to an Eco-Committee member or Mrs Jenkins.

We have reviewed our Eco Code and decided to make some relevant changes - we will announce the new code soon.

We have carried out our annual Environmental Review and we will be using this to inform this year's Action Plan which we will post and share with you soon.

We have already had a Rags 2 Riches for Schools collection this year (with another planned for early in the New Year). We saved 55kg of clothing from potentially going to landfill and raised around £75 for our school. Thank you for your support.

Eco Committee 2017-2018

Here at Raglan CiW VC Primary School we are very proud of being an Eco aware school.  We are especially proud of all of the hard work that previous year groups have put in to help us become a Platinum Eco Flag School.

This year our Eco Team want to continue with this hard work by developing our understanding and awareness of what it means to be Eco friendly; as well as holding some one-off special Eco events!

We have been meeting together regularly since September. In our meetings we have discussed/plan to discuss the Environmental Review, the school Eco code and Eco ideas for the school year.
