Summer Week 6
Dosbarth Pedwar have made us extremely proud with their efforts this week. They have shown how supportive they can be towards each other, being fantastic team players during Sports Day on Wednesday but also, being excellent role models while attending the Cluster Sports Festival. They were able to demonstrate their skills and perseverance throughout the day and enjoyed engaging with other children from other schools across the cluster. As well as this the children have shown commitment and diligence when planning a fair test and planting the seeds for their science investigation into the best conditions for healthy plant growth.
Summer Week 5
We welcomed the children back to the last part of the academic year with a brilliant and busy week 5. We have spent time outside, getting the final preparations ready for Sports Day next week, with hurdles and relay practice. Sports Day preparation has also supported us in our maths lessons, where we have been transferring data of javelin throwing to create line graphs. Along side this, we have also been deepening our scientific understanding of photosynthesis. Finally, we have looked closely at the skill of using direct speech and inverted commas in our writing and listened carefully to our new model story, 'The Raindrop of Life'.
Summer Week 4
This week Dosbarth Pedwar have blown us away with their effort and focus towards writing their non-fiction explanation texts. They have taken their learning from their science exploration of plant life cycles and used it to support them in creating clear and concise explanations. In maths, we have been using our understanding of hundredths to solve problems, and we thoroughly enjoyed our Olympic themed workshop from ICE learning about being resilient through a Bible story. Finally, The children have completed their Sports Day preparation and used Adobe Express to generate timelines about the changes in farming through history.
Summer Week 3
The children have enjoyed a week of demonstrating and developing their physical health and wellbeing skills, with lots of different sports being enjoyed throughout the week, including their final swimming session, a fantastic cricket workshop and improving their distance for standing long jump in our PE session. We have also been reader as writers, analysing model explanation texts and identifying features and vocabulary that could be used to support independent writing next week. In Maths, our focus has been investigating and exploring the properties of 3D shapes and using nets to understand how 3D shapes are formed. Finally, we have researched the history of farming in Wales, focusing on changes over time with tools used, crops and animals farmed and techniques that have developed. Our research all contributed to the creation of a class timeline.
Summer Week 1 2025
What a lovely welcome back to the summer term with Year 4. We have enjoyed getting outside whenever we could this week, deepening our subtraction skills with practical learning, beginning to practise skills connected to athletics in preparation for Sports Day and performing our narrative poetry. We have also started on our learning experience for the French language project we are involved in through Monmouth Comprehensive School, learning about the parts of the body in French and in science we have been exploring the school grounds for examples of the seven life processes. The children have worked collaboratively to create their own narrative poetry, sharing ideas to effective help them to write with rhythm and rhyme.
Spring Week 13 2025
This week Year 4 had an exciting time creating the explorer energy bars that they designed. They then estimated how many calories would be in them and considered both flavour and texture. In Maths this week we have applied our measuring skills of mass and capacity to solve contextualised word problems. We have written the resolution and ending sections of our wishing tale stories which were very thought provoking and inspiring. We used watercolour paint creatively to design beautiful Easter cards and looked amazing at the whole school Easter parade.
Spring Week 12 2025
Year 4 have worked with focus and persistence this week, writing, editing and improving their Wishing Tale stories. They have found aspects of the writing challenging but have shown skill in being able to edit and redraft their work in order to improve it. In Maths, we have explored volume of shapes and engaged in outdoor learning to consolidate our understanding of parallel and perpendicular lines. The class showed excellent teamwork while playing netball and enjoyed their immersion day creating videos that retell stories from the Inuit culture. Finally, we began designing a healthy snack for an explorer considering ingredients needed and what an explorer would need to eat on their adventures!
Spring Week 11 2025
Our week started with a wonderfully wild visit to Noah's Ark Zoo, where the children got to meet some of the animals we have been learning about during our Pole to Pole topic, as well as, take part in a 'Save our Species' workshop where we met a tortoise, snake and African land snail first hand. The visit was a great experience and the children have been able to use the trip to inspire their main character animal choices for their Wishing tales. In Maths, we have been exploring capacity through practical activities and our netball session enabled us to implement our footwork and shooting skills. Finally, we have used drama to retell stories from both the Welsh and Inuit cultures, thinking about how storytelling has changed through the generations.
Spring 2025 Week 10
An exciting and busy week for the children in Blwyddyn Pedwar this week. We have begun planning our own Wishing Tales, inspired by the story behind 'And Tango Makes Three', while also considering challenges we may face in achieving our dreams and wishes. We were lucky enough to experience an engaging and personal poetry workshop from local poet Conor Allan on Tuesday, which inspired the class in their own creative writing. In maths, we have been rehearsing our skills connected to measuring mass and we have also been getting outside in the sunshine as much as possible, developing our attacking skills in netball and completing some Commando Joe assignments. Finally, we have used our knowledge of shelters, conductors and insulators to begin designing a shelter for different environments, ready to create in Minecraft next week.
2025 Spring Week 9
This week has been influenced by our World Book Day book 'And Tango Makes Three' together with our theme Pole to Pole. In science, we have explored the life cycle of a penguin, understanding the different stages they experence. Our literacy work has seen us deepen our awareness and understanding of the feelings and emotions experienced by different characters within the story of 'And Tango Makes Three', demonstrating this through drama 'Freeze Frames' and short burst writing. In maths, we have bee applying our skills of angle and direction to plot a route through the desert and in humanities we have researched the environmental features of penguin habitats. Finally, we thoroughly enjoyed taking part in our Clogg Fit session with Tudur Phillips.
