Welcome to our Year 3 class page!
Spring Term - Week 4
This week Blwyddyn 3 have been developing their justification skills, thinking carefully in maths and other areas of their learning about the why? In maths, the children have also been exploring and identifying 2D shapes, thinking about their properties and how to describe them. Literacy has seen us begin to write our own 'Change Tales', ensuring we have plenty of description and use the 'Power of Three' to describe. In science, we have explored different biomes of our word and in humanities, we have been understanding differences, how we re different from others and how people across Wales share and learn from their differences.
Spring Term - Week 3
Blwyddyn 3 have continued to build on and progress with their 'Brilliantly Different, Wonderfully Connected' learning this week. They have embedded the model text, inspired by the book 'We're All Wonders' by R.J. Palacio; using this to then allow them to innovate and plan their own Change Tale. The children have explored features of Wales, deepening their understanding of the term 'culture' and what it means to be Welsh. We have also begun to plan our Eisteddfod artwork, inspired by the Madhubani art style from India. Finally, the children have been linking their learning from 'gwisgo' last week to 'bwyta' this week, through Welsh games and conversation.
Spring Term - Week 2
Dosbarth 3 have enjoyed some new opportunities and experiences this week, including being hooked into their new literacy story 'We're All Wonders' and their first brass music lesson, as part of the Gwent Music First Experiences Project, which they thoroughly enjoyed. Throughout the week, the children have been embedding their understanding of expanded addition, including through the use of money and they have been developing a clearer understanding of map reading, Wales and her important features. They have also begun to learn about the religion of Hinduism and considered the question of 'Why I can't live on the moon?'.
Spring Term - Week 1
The children in Year 3 have settled back into the new term and our new learning with gusto! They have embraced our new topic 'Brilliantly Different, Wonderfully Connected' and have enjoyed the learning opportunities this has given them. We have begun by exploring the word 'Community', thinking about what this means and how we are linked together within our own community. In Expressive Arts, we have started to explore the features of the 'Madhubani' art style, using colour, line and pattern. Science has enabled us to begin identifying differences between living and non-living things, sorting and organising them according to a criterion and in our literacy, we have been using adjectives to create our own expressive performance poetry, before performing them to each other.
Autumn Term - Week 5
Dosbarth Tri have made us extremely proud this week, from developing independence when carrying out science investigations to singing acapella in Church at the Harvest celebration, they are given their all and tried their best at every opportunity. This week, they have been exploring character's emotions and how they change as a story develops, they have explored partitioning and smile addition in maths and begun investigating forces in our everyday lives. They have also been developing themselves as well rounded global citizens through participating in an RE workshop from ICE Wales and a Fairtrade assembly.
Autumn Term - Week 4
This week has seen Dosbarth Tri immerse themselves in life onboard the SS Great Britain, following our visit on Tuesday. The children have though about the importance of understanding facts and opinions when recalling information, they have considered the differences experienced by children on board the SS Great Britain and decided whether life on board was fair or unfair. In maths, we have been rounding to the nearest 10 and ordering numbers and today we have had fun learning some French greetings and conversation for Languages Day.
Autumn Term - Week 3
This week has seen the children in Dosbarth 3 gain in confidence and rise to challenges. They have shown that they are keen to persevere to problem solve and explore things in greater depth. We have seen this when reading our new model text in literacy, 'The Matchbox Diary' where we have considering meaning behind the different items in the story and discussing different emotions and memories connected to them. In maths, we have been ordering and comparing numbers and we all really enjoyed problem solving using the Nrich website. We have also been preparing for our visit to the SS Great Britain next week, thinking about life on board the SS Great Britain and why she was so unique for her time.
Autumn Term - Week 2
This week in Dosbarth 3, we have been striving to show our independence and resilience when working on new learning and facing new challenges. We have been investigating the 100 square and exploring how we can use it to support our understanding of bridging. In Literacy, we have been collaborating to generate rhyming words then using these to write effective limerick poetry. We have used colour mixing skills in Expressive Arts to create all the colours in the colour wheel, using only red, yellow and blue and finally, we have shown super supportiveness when logging in independently to Hwb and beginning to design posters on Adobe Express.
Autumn Term - Week 1
What a wonderful start to the new school year in Dosbarth Tri! We have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the children and celebrating our first week together. We have hit the ground running, with a selection of different art, craft and handwriting activities ready for Usk Show. We have used our Place Value understanding in an imaginative and fun way to create pictures and we have begun our creative writing journey by writing 10 sentence stories. Finally, we have been practising our multiplication knowledge and working on some collaborative STEM challenges. We are really proud of the way the children have adapted to and settled into Year 3 so quickly, da iawn!
