What has been happening in Blwyddyn Dau this week?

26.01.26

This week, Blwyddyn 2 launched their learning with a visit to All Saints Primary School to explore their Islam celebration day. During our morning at All Saints Primary School, we explored what Muslim people value and made connections to what we value (including our families, looking after the environment and helping those in need). During LLC this week, we have been writing our journey tales inspired by our text The Perfect Fit. We included an example of dialogue between characters, exciting synonyms for said, onomatopoeia and triple adjective sentences. Throughout the week, we have been investigating weighing using traditional scales, balance scales and non-standard units of measure (such as our hands). As we progressed to reading traditional scales, we recorded our findings in a table and concluded our findings. As we continued our journey into cynefin and ensuring everyone feels as if they belong in our community, we explored traditional Welsh Folk Dance, how to treat one another fairly, working together to create a safe space and understanding how to manage big emotions. During our Welsh sessions this week, we recapped 'Sut wyt ti'n teimlo?' which means 'How are you feeling?' 'Beth wyt ti eisiau?' which means 'What do you want?' and were introduced to 'Beth sy'n bod?' which means 'What is the problem?' and explored parts of the body in Welsh. On Friday, we had a fantastic visit from the EAS who shared new Welsh games with us linked to our Welsh language pattern 'Beth sy'n bod?'

This week, Blwyddyn 2 have fully immersed themselves in their theme as they applied their wellbeing learning within their team building challenges. In LLC this week, the children have been boxing up their journey tale with increasing independence, many learners have enjoyed editing and improving their plan after proofreading it. In math this week, we have been focusing on commutativity and how we can apply our knowledge of number, money and measure as we identify number sentences that show commutativity. Throughout the week, the learners have been exploring how to treat others fairly, showing empathy and compassion for those who may need to be treated with extra care/ support in our community. As the week progressed, we explored how Christians look after the world, making connections to how we should treat our community and planet. We also explored how different events can make us feel, making connections to the Welsh language pattern 'Sut wyt ti'n teimlo?' which means 'How are you feeling?' Throughout the week we have also explored 'Pa ddiwrnod ydy hi heddiw?' meaning 'What day is it today?' Revisiting the Welsh days of the week and months of the year. '

12.01.26

This week, Blwyddyn 2 enjoyed solving a reasoning problem named an Arithmagon. They collaborated to spot and discuss patterns, using what they noticed to solve the problem and explain how they did it. Throughout the week, the learners applied their knowledge of 2D shapes as they deepened their understanding of 3D shapes and their properties. On Monday, the learners enjoyed finishing their redrafts of their shape poetry, including writing their poems into a shape linked to the animal/ natural item they selected. As the week progressed, the learners got stuck in with their new journey tale The Perfect Fit by developing questions for a character and answering questions created by a partner whilst sitting in the Hot Seat. As the week progressed, the learners began to develop their story maps in preparation for their writing. Throughout the week, we have been focusing on extending our answers to "Ble rwyt ti'n byw?" (Where do you live?), "Beth wyt ti'n hoffi?" (What do you like?) and "Beth wyt ti'n eisiau?" (What do you want?). During our wellbeing learning this week, we have explored how we can apply our knowledge of balance when working with various apparatus, how we can communicate when working as a team (including non-verbal cues) and the consequences that negative choices can have on ourselves/ those around us. Finally, we also continued our exploration into the Christian story of Creation and reflected on the consequences of treating people who are different to us differently through roleplay scenarios.

05.01.26

This week, Blwyddyn 2 eagerly started their new topic Finding Our Place. During LLC, the learners explored the features of shape poetry, recognising qualities they admire in people around them and comparing it to things found in our natural world. As the week progressed, the learners drafted and redrafted their shape poetry, inspired by their learning on what they admire in others, and something found within the natural world. In math this week, the learners built upon their understanding of number bonds, applying what they know within our new restaurant, to measuring challenges and when working with three figure addition questions. During PE and Wellbeing, we explored the importance of developing our balance within our daily lives, learning new balances we can use to strengthen our core and creating short sequences. We also started our Steve Backshall inspired teamwork missions, identifying the value of working with others, creating an action plan as a team and reflecting on how harnessing a positive and resilient attitude can impact those around us. As we progressed in our wellbeing learning, we explored the story of the invisible ring and debated whether the character in the short film should keep the ring and the impact it could make on others. In our topic learning this week, we explored the story 'What Happened to You?' discussing why Joe didn't want to share his experience, exploring the impact of asking inappropriate questions and recognising the impact the children made within the story.
